Arrival by Car

For the major arteries into Philadelphia, the Schuylkill Expressway portion of I-76 provides your final approach to University City via exit 345 or 346A only a few blocks from the Lab. These insterstates include the Pennsylvania Turnpike (comprising I-76, I-276, I-476), I-95, and the New Jersey Turnpike with I-295. Follow the regional directions of the "Visit Us @ Penn" page to the Schuylkill Expressway. Then:

• From the Northeast, via the New Jersey Turnpike and I-295: Follow the directions below for approaching the campus via westbound I-76.
• From the Northeast, via the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-476: Follow the directions below for approaching the campus via eastbound I-76.
• From the Northwest, via the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-276: Follow the directions below for approaching the campus via eastbound I-76.
• From the North via I-95: Follow the directions below for approaching the campus via eastbound I-76.
• From the South via I-95: Follow the directions below for approaching the campus via westbound I-76.

Most of the Schulykill's entrance and exit ramps in the city are short and some are on the left-hand side of the road. Also, the Schulykill is heavily congested in both directions during rush hours and often during other times of the day.

Street and lot parking is available within a few minutes walk to the Lab.

Via Eastbound I-76

When approaching via eastbound I-76, take Exit 345 / 30th Street / Market Street. The ramp terminates with a stop sign at 30th Street, behind 30th Street Station. Turn right and follow 30th Street as it curves into its intersection with Market Street at the second(?) traffic light. Follow the directions below from 30th and Market Streets.

If you miss this exit, take the Exit 346A / South Street. This exit is on the left side of the road (and after the exit for I-676 / Vine Street Expressway). Follow the directions below from South Street via Exit 346A, turning right at the ramp light.

Via Westbound I-76

When approaching via westbound I-76, take Exit 346A / South Street. This exit is on the left side of the road, after Exit 346B (on the right), and shortly after you enter I-76. Follow the directions below from South Street via Exit 346A, turing left at the ramp light.

If you miss this exit, take the next Exit 345 / 30th Street / Market Street. This exit terminates with a traffic light at the intersections of Schuylkill Avenue and Chestnut Street. Cross Chestnut Street and go one block on Schuylkill Avenue to the next traffic light. Turn left onto Market Street. You are heading west towards 30th Street, at the next light. Follow the directions below from 30th and Market Streets.

From 30th and Market Streets

Refer to the map for Schuylkill Exit 345.

To the Lab or to parking in garage #30:

If you are on southbound 30th Street, cross Market Street and stay on 30th Street. If you are on westbound Market Street, turn left onto 30th Street. The drive two blocks on 30th Street until it ends in a T-instersection with Walnut Street. Turn right onto Walnut and continue three blocks to 33rd Street. Levine Hall is about a half block farther, on your left. For parking in garage #30, continue on Walnut to about a half block past 37th Street. The garage is on your right. About 5-10 minutes excluding parking.

To parking garage #37 or lot #34:

Drive around the station onto 30th Street and to the traffic light at Market Street. Turn right at the light onto Market Street. Drive four blocks on Market Street, getting into the left-turn lane for 34th Street. On the left-turn signal, go left onto 34th Street for one (short) block accross Ludlow Street. Garage #37 is on your left, lot #34 is to your right. After parking, continue one block by foot on 34th Street from Chestnut Street to Walnut Street. Cross Walnut Street, turn left, and walk about a half block farther. Levine Hall is on your right.

From South Street via Exit 346A

Whether you take Exit 346A from the eastbound or westbound direction, its short ramp terminates at a traffic light at South Street. From the exit ramp, turn west onto South Street, in the direction of the red brick buildings and away from the brown building. You are heading towards 33rd Street. At the second traffic light after leaving the ramp, turn right onto 33rd Street. Walnut Street is the next cross street, at the next full traffic light. Turn left. Levine Hall is about a half block farther, on your left. For parking in garage #30, continue on Walnut to about a half block past 37th Street. The garage is on your right.
