George Lee
Purdue University / NSF
Current Developments in NSF Directorate for Computer and Information
Science and Engineering, and Information-Technology-Based Robotics
Abstract: In this talk, I will briefly
describe current developments in the NSF Directorate for Computer and
Information Science and Engineering (CISE). Then I will briefly discuss
my current research activities in distributed mobile robots and skill
learning for humanoid robots. These research activities are part of my
independent research development while serving at the National Science
Foundation. Due to the time constraint, I may focus my research talk more
on my current humanoid robot research activities.
Biography: Dr. C. S. George Lee is Program Director
for Robotics Program, Division of Information and Intelligent Systems
(IIS), Directorate of CISE. His current responsibility includes managing
all the robotics proposals submitted to the IIS division and collaborating
with other Program Officers in Foundation-wise and CISE-wide robotics
activities.
Before joining the NSF, Dr Lee is a Professor of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A. An IEEE
Fellow since 1993, Professor Lee’s research has been focusing on
robotics and neuro-fuzzy systems, and more recently on humanoid robots
and mobile robots. Professor Lee has authored or co-authored over 150
publications in these areas, in addition to two graduate textbooks, Robotics
(McGraw-Hill, 1986) and Neural Fuzzy Systems (Prentice-Hall, 1996), and
20 book chapters.
