Mingmin Zhao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania, with a secondary appointment in Electrical and Systems Engineering. He leads the WAVES Lab (Wireless, Acoustic, Vision, and Embodied Systems). He received his Ph.D. from MIT and his B.S. from Peking University. His research has been recognized with the ACM SIGMOBILE Doctoral Dissertation Award Runner-up, ACM MobiCom Best Artifact and Best Demo Awards, and other honors. His work has appeared in leading venues across machine learning, computer vision, and mobile and wireless systems, including ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, MobiCom, MobiSys, SIGCOMM, and SenSys.

His research lies at the intersection of wireless and acoustic sensing, machine learning, computer vision, and embodied systems. His group develops new sensing and perception capabilities by extracting information from physical signals beyond what humans can directly sense, particularly radio-frequency and acoustic signals, and by developing physics-grounded learning methods to interpret them. His work spans high-resolution RF imaging and scene understanding, non-line-of-sight perception, acoustic field modeling and audio intelligence, multimodal learning, and wearable and contactless sensing for digital health.
