[VIRTUAL] Fall 2020 GRASP SFI: Outreach and AI4ALL@GRASP

November 11, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Last year, Matthew Malencia and Tahiya Salam launched a new summer program at GRASP in partnership with the national non-profit AI4ALL. This program supports Philadelphia area high school students interested in artificial intelligence and robotics. In this talk, Matthew will discuss GRASP outreach goals and how AI4ALL@GRASP has been designed to fulfill these goals. Audience members will learn to maximize their individual impact through alignment of their unique skill set with outreach opportunities.

Matthew received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State in 2016, with honors in Electrical Engineering. During his undergraduate career, he conducted high school and middle school STEM outreach as part of Engineering Ambassadors. After graduating, he worked for MIT Lincoln Laboratory doing research in the Homeland Protection. While at Lincoln Laboratory, he studied cognitive robotics at MIT and conducted outreach for K-12 students in both computer science and robotics. He is now a PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at University of Pennsylvania with Vijay Kumar and George Pappas.
