[VIRTUAL] GRASP Industry Talk: FoVI3D, “Introduction to FoVI’s Carry, Roam, Observe (CRO) Robotics Program”

April 12 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

First responders and Soldiers routinely carry between 60 and 100 pounds of gear over terrain and missions that often required running and jumping. Therefore, it is not uncommon for these individuals to experience short-term muscle strain which can result in more serious conditions such as degenerative arthritis and bone spurs. This talk provides the high-level program goals, concepts, and progress to develop a rugged, off-road, 4×2 wheeled, electric mule designed to follow first responders or soldiers over difficult terrain.

FoVI3D is a small business located in Austin, Texas that focuses on the research and development of advanced light-field visualization systems and small scale, mobile robots.  Founded in 2013 by Amy Lessner and Thomas Burnett, FoVI3D is a woman-owned company supported mainly by the Department of Defense SBIR Program as well as commercial R&D contracts.

For over twelve years, Amy has managed multiple million-dollar Defense and Commercial projects.  Amy manages the direction and execution of all FoVI3D programs from both government and industry.

Thomas has been developing and managing complex robotics systems for nearly 20 years.  Thomas architected software systems for multiple opto-mechanical, light-field imaging systems and is the primary developer of FoVI3D’s CRos and CRO Mk 1 autonomous robot research platform.   In addition, Thomas led the FoVI3D team that developed, assembled, and delivered the world’s highest resolution light-field display.
