GRASP Special Seminar: Dr. Marco Nicotra, University of Michigan, “Explicit Reference Governors for the Constrained Control of Nonlinear Systems”

May 23, 2017 @ 10:00 am

ABSTRACT

The Explicit Reference Governor (ERG) is an add-on control unit that provides constraint handling capabilities to existing closed-loop systems by suitably manipulating their reference. The objective of this talk is to introduce the general theory of the ERG and provide intuitive examples on how it can be implemented for a variety of systems.

Presenter

Marco Nicotra received his Ph.D. degree in 2016 under the joint supervision of the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Università di Bologna. He is currently a research fellow at the University of Michigan. His main research interests focus mainly on constrained control, stability of nonlinear systems, and aerial robotics. In 2014 he received an honorable mention for the Young Author Prize at the 19th IFAC World Congress in Cape Town, South Africa.
