Benjamin David Shaffer (He, Him)

PhD, MEAM

 Ben is a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in physics-inspired machine learning for dynamical systems and fluid dynamics, under the guidance of Dr. Ani Hsieh and Dr. Nat Trask. His current research focuses on developing robotic sensing strategies to study oceanic processes. Prior to his doctoral studies, Ben served as an active-duty engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Directed Energy Directorate, where he contributed to modeling turbulent flow for optical applications. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Robotics Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2019.
