Derek is interested in problems related to using cutting-edge sensors for robotic perception (LiDAR, RGBD, event cameras), leveraging semantics to autonomously build maps of unstructured environments, and multi-robot systems & human-robot interaction for real-world applications. Before joining Penn, Derek completed his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California and worked as a Robotics Engineer at OnRobot A/S (cobot end-effectors) and OffWorld Inc (industrial robotic mining) in Los Angeles.
